Mother Garden Project

Our Mother Garden is a living laboratory showcasing permaculture and ecological restoration in action. Located at our primary site in Pennsylvania, the garden demonstrates sustainable practices through:

Native Willows for Bank Stabilization and Crafting

We cultivate seven varieties of willow, selected for their deep root systems that prevent erosion and stabilize riverbanks. These versatile plants are also harvested for basketweaving and crafting sustainable goods, blending ecological function with community utility.

Diverse Fruit Crops

The garden features a thriving food forest of plums (European, Asian, and hybrid varieties) and peaches, chosen for their resilience and productivity. These crops provide nutritious yields while enhancing soil health and biodiversity.

Mushrooms for Soil Health

Edible and medicinal mushrooms, such as oyster and shiitake, are grown to enrich soil, break down organic matter, and support a robust underground ecosystem.

The Mother Garden is a resource for learning and inspiration, open to volunteers and visitors. Contact us to explore the garden or participate.
